I went to pigalle moulin rouge and everything was seemed okay to me.. I entered the place but only one in the bar was me. I said no,after said no,some bodyguards showed up,and the old lady pushed me to pay this sum.
I made a little research about them.. Once a notorious section of Paris it is now a tourist attraction. The sex shops are still there but have been cleaned up along with the strip joints and sex shows. The Moulin Rouge is still there but the show will set you back Euros for a couple and is well below the standards of even the poorest Vegas production.
Toulouse is rolling in his grave. It might be that the Moulin Rouge would be considered part of Pigalle although the metro stop for that is Blanche but as you walk beyond it walking towards the Pigalle metro stop you will walk across scores of sex shops, there are also a few Indian fast food places but you have to be broad minded and not too great if you have kids with you. Don't get me wrong I am not a prude but this place drips with sex and is really seedy.
If you want to visit here do so during the day. If going at night there is a good Karaoke Bar and a good pub called 'Dirty Dicks' - If you are in Montmarte you may stumble upon this area - it is definitely to be experienced but personally it doesn't do that much for me. Leads onto Montmartre so worth a walk through. See the famous Moulin Rouge. A tourist train runs through both areas with a recorded explanation of the history of the area- great value. Besides the mill on the rooftop there is nothing exciting and to be honest the mill itself is a bit boring: I believe that watching a show would elevate our rating a bit, however it was really expensive and we decided not to go.
On the plus side the location is quite nice. A lot of sex shops, massage places, etc. To my amazement we have seen a lot of families with very small children there! Flights Vacation Rentals Restaurants Things to do.
